COACH REGISTRATION GUIDE

Become a Coach!

HRJC only exists because of our strong community of coaches. Our coaches come from many different backgrounds and levels of expertise and fitness, but we all share the passion for helping kids grow through mountain biking.

Please read everything on this page first, then follow the instructions to register as a coach with the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League and complete the requirements.

1. Register as a coach with the Colorado High School MTB League

Go to the Colorado League Registration Page directly by clicking HERE. Please note that coach registration typically opens around March 1. If registration is not open yet, you can still start working on your coach certification requirements (see #3 below).

To complete Coach Registration you will need your credit card for the annual $25 League Coach Registration fee and the following passcodes to register as a coach under your choice of high school:

  • Highlands Ranch = Passcode: Highlands
  • Mountain Vista = Passcode: Mountain_Vista
  • Rock Canyon = Passcode: Rock_Canyon
  • Thunder Ridge = Passcode: Thunder_Ridge
  • Valor Christian = Passcode: Valor

*If you have a middle school aged child, choose the school that they will eventually attend. If you don't have a child on the team, or they are not and will not be attending any of the above schools, ask Coach Scott which one to select.

Under the Coach section on that page, select your school from the pull-down under "Coach Registration" and click the "Register" button. That will take you to the school page where you can click "Join Team." This will open a pop-up window where you enter the corresponding code above. On the next page, if you are a new coach, click "Create Account." Enter your information on the next page and click "Sign Up." Continue to register by following the instructions, pay and check out.

2. Complete Background Check

After registering as a coach with the Colorado League, you will receive an invitation email from info@ccnbikes.com to complete your background check with Sterling Volunteers. Check your SPAM folder! There is a small additional fee for the background check.

3. Complete Mandatory Online Training

Complete the free courses through NFHS:

  • NFHS Concussion Training Course • Annual Requirement
  • Athlete Abuse Awareness (2 Parts) • Every 2 Years
    • NFHS Protecting Students From Abuse
    • NFHS Bullying, Hazing & Inappropriate Behaviors
  • NFHS Mental Health & Suicide Prevention • Every 2 Years

If coach registration isn't open yet for the current year (before March 1), you can go ahead and create an account (or log into your existing account) on the NFHS.org website and take the NFHS courses and save your certificates for upload later once registration opens.

After you've taken the courses, log back in to CCN HERE, go to Memberships and click on your level 1 license, then upload your certificates. That's it!

Level 1 coaches are essentially assistant coaches and can serve as trail ride support (rovers and sweeps). If you complete the requirements for Level 2 or Level 3, you can serve as a group ride leader. HRJC has many different groups at each practice so we rely heavily on Level 2 and 3 coaches to execute the coaching plan for the day set by the Head Coach and lead our ride groups. Please consider taking the additional steps to get to Level 2 or 3 as described in the Colorado League system. HRJC will reimburse all coaching certification related expenses for Level 2 and 3 coaches each year.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Scott.
