The Highlands Ranch Junior Cycling (HRJC) team is also the Highlands Ranch Junior TRIATHLON team! Middle School and High School triathletes of all abilities can train with world class coaches and race local and national triathlons as part of HRJC TRI.
The team is officially registered as a USA Triathlon High School Club. Ask about free USAT membership!
Please email Coach Scott if you have specific questions after reading all the info below: scott@hrjc.bike.
Swim
The HRJC Triathlon Team has partnered with Highlands Ranch Aquatics (HRA) to provide pool swim training through HRA's High School Camp program. HRJC triathletes can choose up to 3 practices per week offered by HRA. HRA practices take place 3:45-5:15pm Monday through Thursday at Waterworks Highlands Ranch, 4-5:45pm on Fridays and 10am-noon Saturdays at the HRCA Northridge rec center pool. Fees are $150 per month (month to month) + a one time $50 registration fee. Contact coachbocci@hraswim.org with any questions or to register.
In the summer, HRJC will also hold regular open water swim practices at the gravel pond at Chatfield State Park. We may even be joined by an Olympic medalist or current elite triathlete or paratriathlete from time to time! The schedule for open water swim practices will be announced soon.
Bike+Run
HRJC triathletes can to register separately and ride with the HRJC Devo mountain bike program or Fall High School Mountain Bike program. Participation on your school track and cross-country team is also encouraged.
HRJC also holds a triathlon focused Bike + Run practice every other week.
Practice locations are updated regularly in the Spond App (see below).
Races are not mandatory, though certainly encouraged. High School and middle school aged triathletes should focus on races no longer than "sprint" distance- 750 meter swim / 20 kilometer bike / 5 kilometer run.
HRJC Triathletes can choose to do local age-group triathlons, off-road triathlons, and even compete nationally in draft-legal Olympic format races. All races are registered for directly with each race. Triathlons tend to fill to capacity early so register soon in case of a sell out.
Local and National Age-group and Off-road Triathlons
USA Triathlon Junior Elite Race Series
Each triathlete is required to wear a helmet and needs a bike in good working order. Age-group triathlons can be completed on any type of bike (but a "triathlon" bike with aerobars is fastest), off-road triathlons require a mountain bike, and draft-legal races require a standard road bike. Cycling shoes and sunglasses are also highly recommended. A training swimsuit and goggles are needed for swim workouts, and regular running shoes for run workouts. Water and snacks are critical. Team tri-suits will be available for races and must be purchased separately.
Do not let the state of your bike deter you from joining the team!! HRJC has bikes available for you to use. Please inquire with Coach Scott if you need a bike or other equipment.
This team is supported by an amazing set of volunteers and coaches, We couldn’t ask for better leaders for these kids, and their investment in each of their lives is immeasurable.
Our Ride Leaders are certified coaches that allow us to have a ratio of adult leaders to student riders hovering around 6-to-1, which is amazing. Three nights a week, a large group of parents saddle up and ride the trails with our student athletes, and develop a camaraderie with the team that is nothing short of magical.
Finally, each of the parents give back to the team throughout the season, through managing our hectic race days, hosting team dinners, bringing food for the team tent, etc. etc. etc. We couldn’t do it without the parents!

Cost for the HRJC team in 2025 is $330. Scholarships are available if needed. Contact Coach Scott for assistance.
The team fee covers the costs of our high school team registration and infrastructure such as team tents, trailer, equipment, and coach expenses. It also covers all food during the season and a team t-shirt. We are also lucky to be subsidized by some great sponsors, which keeps your costs lower than they might otherwise be.
$330
You will need your credit card, health insurance information and the following passcodes to register your rider for their specific high school:
The League registration covers all riders with insurance at practices and races and helps to fund the fantastic race weekends.
$180
Race registration is also with the Colorado League. When you enter each of the four races during the season, you pay this $80 fee (4 race pass save $10 each race = $280), which adds your name to the racing roster for each race. You MUST register for a race 7 days in advance WITH THE COLORADO LEAGUE, or you will not be able to race! There is no onsite registration. We recommend registering now for all 4 races.
$80/$280
If you plan on racing for your high school, you are required to wear your high school’s jersey. It’s also great to have a uniform that represents your school! You do not have to purchase a new jersey if you have one from the 2023 or 2024 season as the design has not changed.
Jerseys will be delivered the week prior to the first high school race in late August.
